Nepal successfully conducted the highest altitude fashion runway named “The Mt. Everest Fashion Runway” at Kala Patthar on Jan 26th, 2020 organized and initiated by RB diamond and KASA (an international fashion brand founded in Kathmandu valley) and supported by Nepal Tourism Board. The fashion runway successfully secured a record in the book of Guinness world record as the highest altitude fashion runway ever.
The whole event duration was from January 16 to January 30, 2020. 15 international models and celebrities from different parts of the world (Finland, Italy, Sri Lanka, and Singapore) with 5 models of Nepal contributed for this Everest Fashion Runway, flying all the way from Kathmandu to Lukla and then trekking up to Kala Patthar in an eco-friendly way to walk on the highest ramp of the world till now. During the trek, KASA team used various eco-friendly technologies like Clensta waterless bath, Clensta waterless shampoo, pro-biotic detergent, and dish wash to save water and leave no chemical behind, during the trek. According to KASA, the pro-biotic products are biodegradable and supported by Aurea center, Auroville. This eco-friendly trek is an example to save water and its contamination in the Himalayas where water is very precious for the locals.

“The Mt. Everest Fashion Runway” was held on Kala Patthar situated at an altitude of 5,545 m. Stunning views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Changtse, Mt. Lhotse and many other peaks of the Everest region can be admired from Kala Patthar. The main aim to conduct the event at Kala Patthar (Everest region) is to draw people’s attention to climate change and its effect on the Himalayas. The Fashion Runway featured handmade clothes that were made from wool and pashmina which are renewable and biodegradable. These textile materials are used to encourage fashion industries to adopt and promote sustainable fashion without degrading the environment. KASA aims to draw the attention of the fashion industries and customers about the climate change effect from fashion industry waste (not only in urban but in rural and the Himalayas too). There are many fashion brands that use various chemicals that contaminate the water and degrade the water bodies. These types of brand should not be used; instead, we should focus on biodegradable and renewable clothing that are friendly to the ecology as well.

The main aim of this event was to aware people of the cause and effects of climate change. This event widely focused on eco-friendly tourism or responsible tourism. This event also promotes the Visit Nepal Year 2020 with a deep meaning of “Take only memories, leave only footprints”. The eco-friendly trekking done by the KASA team is an initiation of sustainable and responsible trekking in the Himalayas without disturbing any components of the region.
Documentary of the whole event is supposed to be sent to MTV USA, Canada, and Caribbean territory and then it will be broadcasted on Himalayas TV HD and KASA YouTube channel.

Climate change has been a major problem all over the world. It is very important to focus on the effects caused by climate change. Not only the urban and city area, even the rural and the Himalayas region are also being effect by climate change. If the Himalayas are not protected then glaciers in the Himalaya region will melt and further damage can be done. So, we should be very conscious about global warming, climate change and initiate some contributions towards the environment.
