About Motorbike Tour Routes
We have several itineraries depending on the time frame of riders for Tibet Motorbike tour. The first one motorbike journey start from Kathmandu to Kerung border and end at Lhasa where you will passes Everest Base Camp, Xigar, Shigatse, Colorful Yamdrok-Tso Lake and beautiful landscape of Tibet.
The second options we start our journey from Lhasa and same way end the trip at Kathmandu. The third option is we start from Kathmandu drive to Lhasa and same way back to Kathmandu by motorbike. Our recommendation is if you have short time vacation then 14 days Kathmandu Lhasa Motorbike tour is best for you. 14 Days is including your arrival departure days and visa preparation days in Kathmandu.
During the trip, first 3 days you will stay in Kathmandu for Chinese visa preparation and day 4th you will ride to Shyabrubesi which is about 126 KM from Kathmandu. The next day will passes Nepal -Tibet border and ride to Kerung about 44 KM. Specially we make short day for acclimatization in Kerung. Day 6th you will across 5,250 meters pass and arrive at Tingri about 244 KM. The road passes along the beautiful Tibetan villages and picturesque landscape of Tibet. Day 7th we will ride to Ronbuk and visit Everest base camp via Gawu La Pass at 5,198 meters and stay overnight at Ronbuk. In Ronbuk there are not very comfortable hotels and guesthouse, so if you want to skip Ronbuk for overnight stay you can back XIgar for Overnight. Day 8th you will across Gyatso La Pass 4528 meters and arrive at Shigatse and next 9th day continuous to Gantse and day 10 th you will arrive at Lhasa via Yamdrok-Tso Lake. Lake Yamdrok is one of the great thee Holy lakes of Tibet and it is a spectacular site.
After arrive at Lhasa you are not allow to drive motorbike for sightseeing so, our motorbike will back to Kathmandu by truck and you will visit Lhasa by our private vehicle and fly back to Kathmandu.
Ride to Everest Base Camp
Everest base camp is one of the major destination of Kathmandu Lhasa Motorbike tour. If you are driving from Tingiri the base camp lies around 90 KM and if you are driving from Shigatse it is about 340 Km. The route across the beautiful Gawu La Pass at 5,198 meters and several Tibetan villages as well as local farming. Due to the Chinese government rules you will stop 4 Km before Ronbuk where only electric buses are allow to go the Ronbuk. You will park your Motorbike here and take an electric bus for Ronbuk. Until Ronbuk there is paved road and after Ronbuk the last part of the EBC is over dirt road. The electric bus stop at Ronbuk and you will walk around Ronbuk visit the world highest located Ronbuk monastery and sleep Overnight at Ronbuk.
Best Season for Tibet Motorbike Tour
Tibet is almost possible for travel any time of the year exception of February and March due to the cold weather. During the winter season touring on a motorbike can be little dangerous and uncomfortable.
Similarly, summer may not be the best season due to the rain it make things a little less comfortable that you might like. The best season for motorbike tour in Tibet is spring and autumn from April to July and October to mid of November. At this seasons the weather is clear and bright, there is almost no rain at all and the temperature is warm enough.
Travel Tips: Month of March is not allowed for international tourists to visit Tibet due to the Tibet travel policy.
About Motorbikes
Normally for Tibet Motorbike tour we take our bikes from Kathmandu. We have 411 CC Royal Enfield Himalayan and 500 CC Royal Enfield classic motorbike for Tibet tour. Royal Enfield’s motorbikes are very powerful and comfortable for long drive and high altitude. We can also provide other brands of motorbikes if your require brands of motorbikes are available in Nepal or in Tibet.
Driving rules in Tibet
During Kathmandu Lhasa Motorbike tour you will practice both left and right hand driving. While in Nepal side you will drive left hand and after border you will drive on right hand side in Tibet.
About the fueling
There are several fuel station in Tibet while driving to Lhasa. Normally motorbikes are not allowed to enter the fuel station for fueling. You have to park your motorbike out of the station and have to carry fuels in a bucket. Your guide, mechanic and helper will help you everytime for fueling your bike.
What are the necessary documents for Tibet Motorbike tour ?
To get the travel permit of Tibet we need your clear scan copy of your passport and scan copy of your driving licenses by email before 25 days of your arrival. After arrival in Nepal we need your original passport copies for your Chinese visa which takes 3 official days for visa.
