“Mustang Tiji Festival Jeep Tour incorporates the experience of century old Tiji Festival celebrated the Buddhist Tibetan Community in the land beyond the Himalayas while taking the Journey in a 4WD land cruiser driving through various narrow ridges, barren landscapes and mind-blowing mountain views.”
Tiji festival in Lo-manthang is celebrated according to the Tibetan calendar. Upcoming Tiji festival 2021 dates are announced and will celebrate from 8th May to 10th May 2021.
Highlights of the Mustang Tiji Festival Trek:
Tiji Festival is purification ritual that takes place at the beginning of every harvest season. The history of Tiji Festival goes many centuries back, but is embellished by myths and legends rather than recorded facts. The word Tiji originates from the word “Ten Che” which means “hope of Buddhism prevailing in the world for peace” and basically celebrates the triumph of God over demon. The 3 days ritual is celebrated by various kinds of dancing ceremonies in order to chase the devil away. It stands on the mythological story of Lo Manthang. Many centuries back a boy named Dorje Jono fights against his demonic father who creates havoc in the Mustang by creating water shortage, a very scarce resource in the region. Ultimately Jono defeats the demon and banishes him away from the arid land.
Fees, Permits and Facilities:-
Foreign travelers have been allowed to the region since 1992 but tourism in this area is regulated. Foreigners need to obtain a special permit to enter in this area. Mustang is one of the most restricted trekking areas of Nepal but now it is popular destination for trekkers. Upper Mustang is well marked by official "Mustang" boarder signs just north of Kagbeni where a police and ACAP checks permits for non-Nepalese seeking to enter the region, and at Gyu La (pass) east of Kagbeni.
Trekking permits for Mustang costs US $ 500 per person for 10 days. Note that it is defined as 10 days not nights, starting and ending at Kagbeni. Extra days are charged extra US $ 50 per day. In order to obtain the permit you need to have at least two members in a group. That means single permit won’t be allowed from the immigration. If you are single traveler, let us know, we can provide permits by joining you with other travelers group. We need your original passport copy to obtain the restricted area permits.
