Frozen Lake Trekking- Gosainkunda trek route

Gosainkunda (4380m), popular as the frozen lake, carries a huge natural and religious significance. According to Hindu Mythology, the lake was formed when the Lord Shiva stroke his trident in the Himalayas in order to clear his thrust he felt after swallowing poison.

The Frozen Lake Trekking in Nepal starts with the walk through the dense Oak and rhododendron forest and all goes all the way to lauribina pass (4610m). One can enjoy the kaleidoscopic view of Ganesh range, Mansiri range, Langtang range while walking through the whirling Gosainkunda range. The feeling is absolutely incredible when the fresh chilling breezes whisper through your ears. Apart from Gosainkunda, we walk through other various tranquil lakes such as Bhairav Kunda, Ganesh Kunda, Surya Kunda and many more. The Lakes are frozen during the winter. In the early morning, you have the option of climbing Surya peak (5145m) which is a non technical climb. In the same afternoon, you can enjoy the view of the same peak from the restaurant with a cup of coffee in your hand.

One of the fascinating times in Gosainkunda is during “Janai Poornima” celebrated in the month of Bhadra according to local calendar. Thousands of Hindu devotees walk to the place to show their devotion to Lord Shiva. The trek to this region also provides a good opportunity to experience the culture and foods of the Tamang and Sherpa communities in the region.
